Veryplants expands to the United States
Two years in, the Montreal company set up production and fulfillment in Indianapolis and became a two-country operation.
In 2023, three years after opening as a rare-tropicals shop in Montreal and a few months after going all in on potting mixes, Veryplants expanded to the United States. The company set up production and fulfillment in Indianapolis, Indiana, with the first bags of Molly's mixes produced in Indianapolis shipping in late summer 2023. Molly's mixes had been available to US customers on Amazon since the spring.
The move means US orders ship from US warehouses and Canadian orders from Canada, so neither side waits on a border, and it put production much closer to the independent garden centers that now stock the mixes.
Production in the Montreal area continued for Canadian customers.
"Every bag that crossed the border was paying for brokerage and losing two days in transit, and a customer in Ohio was waiting a week for potting mix. Producing in Indianapolis put us within a day's drive of most of the country and let us hold stock on both sides of the border at the same time," said Thomas Clegg, co-founder and Chief Operating Officer.
